Day 1 Monday, September 23, 2013 Fall trip to Vermont and New Hampshire...

The usual early morning take off  bound for Woodstock, VT!  Not particularly looking forward to the 11+ hour drive - at least that's what the GPS is telling us, and it is always very accurate - no getting around it!  However, I always have lots of "stuff" to keep me busy - reading travel books that I have checked out of the library, cleaning up my computer files (can't get on internet though), crossword puzzles that I have saved from the papers for the trip, magazines, stopping for coffee, snacking on Costco trail mix, etc. Went through Canada which is a shorter route when going to New England.  Noticed a sign in Canada for the town of Simcoe which is where my grandmother was born.  Her mother settled there when she came from Ireland.  I want to go there sometime and check it out.  Of course, not taking the time now - it would have to be a trip on its own.

Arrived in Woodstock early evening - had dinner in town at Bentley's which seems to be the town hangout with great bar and atmosphere. The town looks like a scene from Sleepy Hollow tonight - so pretty in the evening with the leaves just beginning to turn and all of the pumpkins, gourds, and cornstalks in front of nearly every business.  Was expecting the Headless Horseman to gallop down the street and any moment!
One of many pretty streets in town
